BUKID
YEAR
2024SCOPE
BRIEF
For this student project, we were asked to design a set of packaging designs for a dried food group of our choice, whilst considering sustainable pre-press and print techniques.
RESPONSE
I designed a series of packages for a speculative brand called Bukid (meaning ‘mountain’ in Bisaya), which serves sustainable, single-origin coffee beans ethically sourced from the mountain regions of the Philippines. I aimed to convey a sophisticated, high-quality specialty coffee brand through its minimal, contemporary design and its commitment to
environmental sustainability. The brand features a uniform design system that comprises an outside container and colour-coordinated information cards inserted in the box pockets. The outside container remains identical for each coffee variety, allowing for brand expansion and also reducing financial and environmental costs by lessening the number of designs to be printed. I also considered the packaging’s functionality on the shelf and in transit by creating a square-shaped container and securing the information cards behind the front flap. The final designs are printed on recycled paper stock, reiterating the brand’s commitment to sustainability.
